Progress on Chapter 2 and Version 0.17

Hello!

Work on Chapter 2 is well underway, so if you're not interested in the details, here are some rough statistics on the content created:

  • Plot is 40% complete
  • Cutscenes are 0% complete
  • Gameplay is 5% complete
  • Environment is 75% complete
  • Models are 0% complete
  • Sound and music 50% complete
  • Effects 20% complete

These are the most important things, but probably something you are interested in is missing.

Here's a list of everything that has changed in version 0.17

  • Added a new option to enable and disable grass.
  • Added new option to enable/disable environment shading.
  • Added new option to enable/disable cinematic camera.
  • Added hidden help for jumping on collapsing platforms (the same as on static platforms).
  • Fixed minor bugs.
  • Increased the range of grass drawing.

PC version updated to 0.17

Android version updated to 0.17

In any case, we will discuss the finished (and unfinished) content in more detail.

WARNING! There are spoilers for the second chapter.

At the moment, the story is in the active writing stage, and I would say that major plot twists are ready.

You've probably noticed that the environments are about 75% done. The entire second chapter will take place on a large deserted island with only one enemy, which is good for those who like easy gameplay and bad for those who like complex gameplay. However, I will say that the second chapter is much harder than the first. Mainly because the second chapter is more stealth oriented than any other chapter in the game. (the exception being the fourth... oops, I think that was a spoiler)

Anyway, since the desert island is a large and open location, a lot of the puzzles are spread out over the whole chapter, making you run around a lot (yes, I did write run around in the context of the stone).

As you can see in this screenshot, the nature of the forest is very diverse, there is even a volcano.

An important part of the gameplay is the rain. It will both hinder and help you during the game. The night also falls into this category.

Why so slow?

Someone asked me this in an email and to be honest, I decided to answer this question in this article so that it would never come up again.

Well, the most difficult factor in my work is the lack of necessary assets, and when I create sounds myself, music that I order from a composer, then 2D and 3D assets are simply nowhere to be found. This definitely makes it difficult to work. However, I don't see the point in worrying about it, because I can make the 3D models myself, but that would take away from my ability to work on other aspects of the game.

You're probably wondering why sounds don't take away your ability to work on other aspects of the game, but models do?

The answer is simple, it takes me a couple of days to make models, and we are talking about just one model. Most sounds don't take hours to make.

I think at the moment it's the 2D and 3D assets that are slowing down the development of the second chapter.

To end on a more positive note, I would like to say that the work on polishing the main problems of the first chapter is finished, and I will now focus on the second chapter. The next post will be dedicated to the gameplay of chapter two, which I'm sure you'll be interested in.
